Thesaurius is an English language thesaurus based on the public domain Moby Thesaurus. Thesaurius aids in finding words related to a given word or phrase. Thesaurius knows about 30,000 root words and about 130,000 unique related words. Altogether, Thesaurius has about 2.5 million (non-unique) related words associated with its root words. Related words include synonyms and antonyms. For brevity, all are collectively known here as synonyms.

Click a root word or phrase from the Root Word or Phrase list and a list of synonyms will show up in the synonyms list. To copy a synonym to the clipboard use menu item Edit->Copy, Cmd+C keys or right-click Copy. Double click a synonym and all the Root Words containing it will be shown in the Root Words list. Synonyms for a root word or phrase are sorted so more common synonyms are higher in the list. You can click Alphabetize Synonyms to sort the list thusly.

Type in the edit box and matching root words will be shown in the Root Word or Phrase list. You may use the wildcard characters * and ? in the text edit box: * matches any number of any characters, including none; ? matches exactly one character.

To get a list of all the roots having a particular synonym, type the synonym (with wildcards if desired) into the edit box and click the Show Roots With This Synonym button.

Press the Return or Enter key to select your text entry to clear it when typing in another root or synonym.

The Roget's Thesaurus button will open a complete, hyperlinked thesaurus in your external web browser. Words in Roget are organized by concept, such as "formal existence", "quantity", and so on. It is a standalone public domain web page that can be saved for offline use with your web browser. Use Right-Click and Save[ Page As]... in your web browser to save it.
